Review of The Truth about Building Muscle by Sean Nalewayj
The good news for bodybuilders and would-be bodybuilders is that you don’t have to be a biology major or a scientist to build bulk. Some other eBooks go into detailed explanations about the construction of muscles and the way that they process fuels in order to create action and strength, but you just need to know what to do, right?
In The Truth of Building Muscle, Sean Nalewanyj is breaking down the idea of having to know EVERYTHING about the human body. You just simply don’t need to know everything about everything – but you do need to know what works. This eBook starts off with the basic principle that building muscle is difficult. And while this sounds like a contradiction of the idea that muscle building can be easy, Sean wants to remind the reader that the actual explanation of building muscle is easy, but the actual process of doing the work is not. You’re still going to need to do the work to get the results that you want to get – no matter what other books have told you in the past.

What strikes most readers about this book is its insistence on being honest with the reader. In this honestly, the reader will understand that many people try to build muscle and start off well, but in the long term, they just can’t maintain their exercise plan or their results. This causes many people to fail. But since Sean acknowledges this, the reader feels like their failures of the past might not only be their fault, but rather a fault of the explanation of previous books.
In The Truth about Building Muscle, Sean wants to work with the reader to minimize the opportunity to fail. Instead of creating a book of overwhelming proportions that might be too much for a reader to take in or writing in confusing muscle-building babble, Nalewanyj takes the time to help you remove the obstacles that may have prevented you from reaching your goals in the past. These obstacles might include laziness, for example. But learning how to tackle these problems will ensure that your muscle building goals will be met this time.
Next, Sean goes into the details of how to build muscles in a step by step instructional layout. By first assuring the reader that he is the authority on body building, the reader feels instantly assured that they can expect great results if they simply listen to what Sean is saying. The reader is able to break away from any previous muscle building tips that they might have learned – the tips that didn’t work anyways.
Instead of having you do worksheets and answer questions, Sean’s gets right down to business in The Truth about Building Muscle. You aren’t going to find distractions or unnecessary self help work in this book, but you are going to find a terrific collection of tips and ideas for helping you in your muscle building program. Here are some of the main sections that are covered:
- Workouts – Understandably, workouts are the first major section in The Truth about Building Muscle. And while many other books simply list out the exercises that you need to do, how many of each you need to do and how you should increase your weight over time, Sean takes that time to explain WHY you are doing each exercise, allowing you to take a more active role in your muscle development. You also get access to video lessons of the exercises because of the bonuses that Sean includes. For those without a lot of time, you will find that Sean’s three days each week of TOUGH workouts of about sixty minutes is reasonable for your schedule without reducing any results.
- Nutrition – In order to create big muscles, you need to be feeding your body the proper nutrition. This isn’t something that you should do; it’s something that you MUST do, according to Sean. While this section is shorter than the exercise section, Nalewanyj is still precise in his instructions to the reader, explaining the ‘how’ as well as the ‘why.’ From when you should eat to what you should eat, your nutritional needs are covered in The Truth about Building Muscle. Sean even talks about a few supplements that might be able to help your training.
- Rest and recovery – While many other muscle building books gloss over this idea, resting your body is one of the most important things you can do when you want to build muscle. Nalewanyj stresses the importance of resting your muscles so they can work harder the next time you’re lifting.
The Truth about Building Muscle is exactly what it presents itself to be – a complete manual for building muscle with a no-nonsense approach. Sean never says that it will be easy, but with his advice, you have a greater chance of succeeding.
