An Interview With Vince Delmonte Author Of No-Nonsense Muscle Building

Interview By Wesley McDermott
Vince Delmonte

Hi Vince, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come and talk to us, I am sure our readers appreciate it.

Q1. Can you give the readers some background information about yourself, like how and why did you get into bodybuilding, how long have you been into it etc.?

Vince: I got into bodybuiding for probably the same reasons every other guy does.

I was too skinny, wanted to feel and look better.  Lots of superficial reasons!  And of course I wanted to look better for the opposite sex.  Basically I wanted to have a body that turned heads and I was tired of being called "Skinny Vinny"  LOL

But aside from the superficial reasons, after 4 years of university and long distance running I decided to stop running and transfer all the energy I once put into the endurance training into the gym.  I always had a fascination with how big I could get with the same work ethic, dedication and comittment that I once applied to my running.

Q2. I know you have taken part in many competitions and done well in them,
could you share with our readers a bit of info on how and why you decided
to take your muscle building to another level.

Vince: Too be honest, I am one of those guys who likes to do things and then stroke it off my lifes 'to do' list.  I still have to go bunjee jumping and sky diving this year!

Fitness modeling and dieting hardcore like a bodybuilder was one of the things I wanted to 'try'  and see what could happen with a 100% effort.  Doing well in the shows was just a bonus.

Too be honest, I really don't like dieting and putting my body to that extreme for just a few days to show it off.  I had a poor experience at the shows I competed in.  The shows were very poorly run, had a low attendance, high entry fees and virtually no prizes for the winners.  You defintely have to compete for your own reasons but the organizers could have done a better job of enticing first timers to compete.  I don't know if it was just me but I didn't feel a positive energy at the bodybuilding and fitness shows I attended, for the most part, everyone seemed very self absorbed and in their own little world.

Personally I would rather train for fitness, testing my limits, compete in sports with others and focus on having a solid athletic physique all year round and not worry if my body fat is 5% or 7%.

I do have to say that competing in the show helps me relate to the bodybuilders out there, my clients and customers who wish to compete.  And I have a tremendous respect for the bodybuilding lifestyle, especially the dieting component.  I believe that you should not preach something that you have never done yourself so I felt it was necessary to compete in a few shows so I could relate to a degree on how they push their bodies and go through.

Q3. What is it that keeps you motivated to train hard and stay dedicated
all year long?

Vince: A self respect for my body.  People see me as fitness buff and fitness expert so I have to maintain that reputation.  I enjoy testing my bodies limits as well and I really enjoy treating my body like an 'experiment' and testing new programs, diets and supplements and measuring the results.  The gym is not only a place to test myself but it's also a social outlet, stress release, and big 'labratory.'

Q4. What are some of your favourite exercises and why?

Vince: I don't know if I have any favorites.  I train hard. I make every exercise hurt in it's own way so it's hard to 'like' any of them!  I always like doing body weight exercises to failure like pushups, pull ups, chin ups, dips, single leg squats.  Bodyweight exercises keep you 'honest.'  You can't cheat on them.  They reveal very quick info about your true level of fitness.

Q5. And what are your least favourite and why?

Vince: I don't have a passion or interest in 'lifting really heavy.'  I do it because it completes a program but I never get excited watching strong man shows or watching powerlifting events.  So I probably dread doing squats and deadlifts the most mainly because they put so much load on your lower back and joints and I my body is always sore for days after doing them.  I would rather do 100 chin ups instead of a one rep max in the squat!

Q6. Can you share with our readers 5 tips on building muscle?

Vince: 1. Train consistently all year round (aside from from pre-set breaks)

2. Train with somone bigger and stronger than you.

3.  Hire a trainer or learn from an expert on proper lifting technique.

4. Focus on increasing your strength 5% every 1-2 weeks.

5. Don't program hop.  Pick a program and committ to it until completion.

Q7. What is the best thing someone can do right now to improve their own
exercise program
?

Vince: Pick one of the tips from above.  Probably making a conscious decision before every workout to increase your weights 5% every 1-2 weeks.

Q8. In your opinion what's the biggest mistake you can make in training?

Vince: Not DECIDING to be successful and not being TRULY committed to their goals.  Too many guys are searching for the 'perfect' program, asking too many questions, over analyzing everything, rely on supplements too much and forget to get their butts to the gym and simply train HARD and eat clean all year round.

Q9. Do you follow any special diet?

Vince: No, I defintely wouldn't call in 'special.'  LOL  Unless you call eating tuna, chicken, oatmeal, fruits and veggies special!  I would rather eat pizza, veal cutlets, meatballs, pasta and beer all day.  But the last time I tried that was in college and ended up getting the 'skinny fat guy' syndrome!  I simply eat a VARIETY of foods throughout the day and really try and hit my 10-15 serving of fruits and veggies each day as i find that makes the most visible difference on my health.

Q10. Can you tell us a bit about your current training routine?

Vince: Since it's summer and I am not in a mass gaining phase, I am following my fat loss program that I outline on my website.   I just got back from Europe so I will be starting up again shortly but prior to it i was in the midst of 5-6 weight training workouts a week and 5-6 interval cardio workouts a week.  I go kind of crazy in the summer time and train much more because I am eating much more with all the social stuff going on.  I am a product of my teaching.  I basically follow the same advice and programming that I subscribe to my clients and customers.

Q11. What are your long term ambitions?

Vince: I really want to travel the entire world.  Next year I plan on going to doing some extreme adventure stuff in New Zealand and Interlaken Switzerland.  I would love to go to Thailand and Australia next year as well. I might go live in Italy for a few months next year as well and study Italian until I know it perfectly.

I would like to continue helping skinny guys transform their bodies and continue to provide the top 'skinny guy' muscle building course on the Internet as well.

Q12. If you could use one word to sum yourself up what would it be?

Vince: Ambitious

Q13. Finally after a bit of a gruelling, can you tell us a bit about your own program taht's called no nonsense muscle building?

Vince BeforeVince: I am obviously biased but I would consider it the BEST online muscle building course specifically designed for skinny guys.  There are many 'muscle building' internet courses out there but mine was designed specifically for the male and female skinny guy or gal, young or old.

It basically includes EVERYTHING you need to know from training, nutrition, supplements, cardio, flexibility and recovery.  All the major components of building muscle are layed out in the book and the course includes programs, meal plans, exercise databases, supplement guides and email coaching.

I designed the course so that if somone is serious enough to change their body, studies my program and follows it... there is ZERO reason they will not succeed.

The program is found at my main website www.VinceDelMonteFitness.com where i also give away a free 10 part email coursebefore they enter the main site.
